Shipping Details

All web orders are shipped from our warehouse in Charlotte, North Carolina.  We ship daily Monday – Friday.

Our goal is to ship your order within 1 to 2 business days of receiving it. Most orders ship the next business day. You will be notified if there is a delay in your shipping for any reason.  We use a variety of shipping carriers depending on what is most economical and efficient. Most packages are shipped Priority Mail United States Postal Service, but we may use FedEx and UPS on occasion.  You can expect your order to arrive within 3 – 7 calendar days.

If your shipping destination is to a PO Box or held General Delivery for a Thru Hiker, we will ship it United States Postal Service (USPS). FedEx does not deliver to the Post Office or to PO Boxes. Orders to Armed Force Stations (APO/FPO) are shipped .

Please ensure that all shipping information is current and correct. Any packages that are returned due to incorrect shipping information or refusal will incur a second shipping charge for resending.

Expedited Shipping

Expedited shipping methods are available, however product may require a 1 day processing time. If you are interested in expedited shipping, please contact our customer service during our posted hours or send us an email. We will inform you if the product can be expedited that day, the shipping charges, and the estimated arrival date. We will send you an invoice for the exact order amount.

Shipping FAQs

How are shipping rates calculated?

The shipping rate is based on the total weight of your order and the region between our warehouse and your shipping address. Our checkout system calculates the total weight of your order and electronically calculates a “weighted rate.”  The price you see is the actual cost of delivery. We do not add an additional processing fee.

Do you profit from shipping charges?

No, shipping is not a profit center for our business. Our goal is to charge you only what it costs to deliver your product. At this time it is not possible for us to calculate exact shipping fees, and we are absorbing some loss in our shipping costs.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver to all destinations within the United States. We also ship APO/FPO.

Do I have to pay taxes?

Outdoor Herbivore is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. State Law requires us to charge a sales tax to all product shipped within North Carolina. Unfortunately, we have no influence on these costs and can offer no alternative on the amount of such charges. Product shipped to a destination outside of the state of North Carolina will not be subject to a sales tax.

Do you deliver to the post office, a post office box, or alternate shipping locations?

Yes, your items will be shipped USPS.

We deliver thru hiker packages to post office and business locations along the trail that accepts holds. You are responsible for ensuring the shipping address of the business location is correct and that the business will hold your package until your ETA. Any packages returned due to incorrect shipping information or because the package was refused will incur a second shipping charge to be sent out. We will ship all packages 7 calendar days prior to your noted ETA.

 How do I ship packages to be Held for Thru Hikers or General Delivery ?

Please state the name of the Hiker that will be picking up the package within the Shipping Address field or the comments field of our Checkout form. Note: Uncheck the box ‘Billing Address same as shipping address’ on the checkout form in order to display the Shipping Address field.

Note: Most Post office and Business locations require validation of identity in order to pick-up held packages.

If I order now, can you deliver product to various locations and ship dates in the future?

Yes. You can do this online by making separate purchases for each location. Make sure you identify your ETA for each order. You may also call Customer Service or fill out our online Contact us form if you are interested in us shipping to multiple locations at different times.  We will ship all packages 7 calendar days prior to your ETA to ensure they arrive in time.

Do you need to ship to multiple locations at different times, have a question about delivering to a thru-hiker, don’t want to use the web form, or have some other special need?

Why does your box say Amazon or some other retailer?

Outdoor Herbivore believes in the importance of preserving trees and natural resources so the essence of the natural world can be experienced by future generations. We strive to lessen our environmental impact as much as possible. One way we take action for the environment is by recycling, reducing, and reusing items whenever possible. That is why when you order from us your shipment may arrive in a cardboard box labeled “Amazon” or some other retailer. We reuse boxes when appropriate and recycle those that cannot be reused. We hope you will do the same.

Do you offer local pick-up for Charlotte, NC residents?

Unfortunately, we do not have a pick-up system in place. We ship all orders. If you are shipping to Charlotte, NC, please send us an email telling us you are local and would like to place an order. We will respond with a special code for you to save on shipping costs. This is our way of thanking our neighbors for supporting our business!
