Description

Do you ever crave fresh foods while backpacking? Outdoor Herbivore has partnered with Mountain Valley Seed Co to produce this hemp trail sack. The trail sprout kit includes everything you need to grow sprouts while hiking. Includes one hemp sprout bag with a drawstring closure, an ultralight carabiner for hanging to your backpack, one packet of trail salad seed mix, and trail sprouting instructions. You can grow your sprouts entirely on the trail or start at home and finish growing while on the trail. Sprouts are excellent when eaten as a salad (try with olive oil and balsamic vinegar), filler for tortillas (hummus wrap!), or a healthy meal topper for various backpacking meals.

Hemp Sprout Kit Includes:

  1. Hemp sprout bag made with 100% webbed hemp fabric to accommodate the perfect mix of air circulation, light, and drainage. Includes a drawstring closure & ultralight carabiner for hanging to your backpack. The hemp bag measures 5.5 inches wide by 9 inches tall. Material is not bleached or dyed for your safety and the environment.
  2. Packet of trail sprout seed mix. The 6 oz seed packet contains organic crimson clover seed, organic alfalfa seed, organic radish seed, organic mung bean, organic lentil, and organic broccoli seed. This mix has a mild spice and a tender crunch. One 6 oz packet of seeds yields 16+ cups of full-grown sprouts.
  3. Instructions for trail sprouting.

New to sprouting? You must hydrate your "backpack garden" by giving sprouts a small drink (about 1/4 cup of treated water) and keeping the bag hung outside your pack for light and aeration. Sprouts are ready to consume after 3 - 4 days which make them best for longer hikes. Fresh sprouts are incredibly delicious, nutritious, and refreshingly crispy. By weight, sprouts are one of the most nutritious food sources, take up little space and weight, and require minimal care. It is liberating to grow a garden on your back in the wilderness - try it out! See also sprouting while on the trail.
