Description

If you live in an area with high humidity and freeze-dried food gets soft or soggy between usage and storage, you can extend the shelf life by keeping the food dry and crisp with desiccants. These 5-gram silica gel desiccants control the moisture inside a package, preventing freeze-dried and dehydrated food from getting soggy and soft from exposure to humid air. Anything that tends to clump or get soggy in a humid environment can benefit from a silica gel packet, including spices, powders, instant coffee, crackers/chips, vitamins/medication, electronics, shoes, and documents.

Package Quantity: Thirty 5.0 gram silica gel non-indicating desiccant packets in a zipper pouch.
Packet Size: 5.0 grams
Packet Dimensions: 1 1/16 x 2 3/4"

FDA approved for food contact.
These silica gels are non-toxic and approved for food contact but should not be consumed.
Reusable. Silica gel desiccants are economical and environmentally friendly. You can regenerate by heating them in an oven at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 1-2 hours. This reusability feature not only saves you money but also reduces waste. Do not reuse absorbers stored in non-food products, as they may not be FDA-approved for contact with food.

How to Use Desiccants:

  • Choose the correct size of silica desiccant, which will depend on the volume of the storage container. These 5-gram desiccants work well in our rehydration pouches, 1-quart mason jars/Myler bags, 1-gallon freezer bags, or container volumes up to 235 cubic inches.
  • Seal unused desiccants in the original package. Do not expose desiccants to the open air for more than 1 hour; otherwise, they will absorb water from the air and be less effective for the next use. There is no quality indicator to monitor effectiveness.

Desiccants versus Oxygen Absorbers:

  • Desiccants absorb moisture. Desiccants keep food crisp and dry and will work after opening the packaging. They are great for snacks and freeze-dried foods.
  • Oxygen absorbers absorb oxygen. They are used to keep food fresh for long-term storage in airtight packaging and do not work once the packaging is opened.
