Description

These custom high-temperature plastic zipper pouches are created for storing and reconstituting backpacking food. Safe for boiling water and rated for temperatures up to 230 deg F (110 deg C). Pouches are shorter, have a bowl shape, and can be reused. Perfect for backpackers wanting to store dried meals and rehydrate on the trail. These bags are clear plastic (aluminum-free).

How to use: Place food in the bag, pour boiling water over the food, stir, seal shut, and allow food to reconstitute for several minutes.

Bag Specs
  • Temperature rating: for heating food to 230 deg F (110 deg C)
  • Short size for ease of stirring and eating. Rounded bottom to prevent food from getting trapped in the corners.
  • Dimensions: 8″ wide x 7″ tall x 3.5" gusset
  • Bag Weight: .60 oz (17 g)
  • Bag Thickness: 5.0 mil
  • Wet Volume: holds 4 cups (.95 L) of water when zip-sealed.
  • One size fits all. Fits all Outdoor Herbivore Hungry Single and Hungry Double prepared meals.
  • Resealable and Reusable. These durable bags eliminate cleaning dishes on the trail. Either pack out and discard after use, or wash at home and reuse again. Allow bag to air dry open before storing.
  • BPA free and Dioxin free.
  • Transparent. No Ink or Dyes.
  • FDA approved for food and high-temperature use.
  • Great for packaging homemade DIY trail meals. Includes a tear strip if heat sealing the top for secure storage or to prevent tampering.
  • Barrier films protect against oxygen and moisture, making them suitable for storing dried food.
  • Other uses: Sous-vide cooking, freezing food, pouring hot soups and storing in fridge/freezer, and other general food storage.
  • Not recommended for microwave use (trapped steam can exceed safety temperature and zipper can soften and warp).
  • Not recyclable in most municipalities due to the multi-layer plastic films.
  • Redesigned in 2022 to offer greater flexibility, improved sealing, and rounded corners to eliminate sharp edges.
Cleaning Instructions
Hand-wash: Use non-abrasive cleaning agents (soft sponge and hot soapy water) to clean. Air dry by propping the bag open.
Dishwasher: Prop open the bag, place it on the top shelf, and dry it with the air-dry setting. Keep bags clear of water jets to prevent bags from moving around and closing.
Ensure the bags have no moisture before storing them; otherwise, they will host mold/bacteria and become unsafe for food reuse.

How the bag is handled and used will impact the number of times it can be reused. Discard the bag if the plastic begins to break down, which you can see if the inner layer begins to separate, tear, or de-laminate.

Worked like a charm

These worked great. I tend to part most freeze dried meals into their two servings, so I divied them into these bags and they held up fantastic. Washed them out when I got home and they're ready for my next trip. They also worked well for storing pre-portioned servinces of dehydrated meals.

Great product

Used bag for hot soaking freeze dried items I was adding to my home-prepared meals. Sturdy, stands up on its own, leak free, cleaned up easily, used multiple times over the course of an 11 day Sierra trip. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

Excellent bags

I purchased 2 to use as 'bowls' so I could carry my meals in very light plastic bags and not have so much trash on a 7 day backpack. They are sturdy, easy to use but I found I didn't enjoy reusing a somewhat dirty bag every meal. Not as easy to clean out as a bowl but they do work well for ultralight backpacking.

Healthiest and easiest

Healthiest and easiest packaging I have found to rehydrate my own dehydrated backpacking meals. Fold out bottom makes it easy to fill and stand. Easy to clean and leak proof.

These work great!

The supplier I used to get these kinds of things from stopped carrying them. I was delighted to find these, right here in Sacramento! They worked great... sealed and resealed perfectly. Great product.

Boil cook bags

I tried them out with oatmeal and they are just like eating out of a deep bowl. I like they have a large bottom and they definitely stand up to hot water.

Better than expected

These bags are wonderful. I pour rolling boiling water into them and the top closure had no issues closing. A bonus I didn’t expect was the bottom opened where the bags can stand on their own. Also saves me from cleaning pots and pans. Will definitely purchase more of these bags.

Cook bags

Purchased these as I was wary of continuing to use freezer bags for meals. These are clear and are 8x7 inches with a pleated bottom and rounded corners. Happy with my decision and I've already made several breakfasts and a few dinners.

Perfect for quick and easy meals

I used these bags on a recent backcountry trip and they worked great for oatmeal (hot and overnight), instant potatoes, ramen, etc. They're big enough for a good post-hike meal and clean up easily for re-use later. I also like how the bottom flattens out so the bag can stand on its own when it has food in it. Open the bags carefully by pulling apart the inner zipper strips, not the main flaps. I didn't have any trouble myself, but I can imagine the bag getting separated from the zipper strips if opened carelessly. Overall, I'm very glad I bought these!

Worked beautifully

Needed to pack my own dehydrated meals due to food sensitivities and these little beasts held up nicely! Kept my food sealed until ready to cook. Love that they flatten out on the bottom so they stand up independently. Would purchase again!
