Description
This organic sprout mix is selected to grow quickly from seed to a crispy green salad within a few days. With a mild spice and a tender crunch, this mix is perfect for sprouting while on the trail.
Sprouts are excellent when eaten as a salad (try with olive oil and balsamic vinegar), filler for tortillas (hummus wrap!), or a healthy meal topper for various backpacking meals. One 6-oz packet of seeds yields about 16 to 18 cups of full-grown sprouts.
Trail Sprout Seed Mix: organic crimson clover seed, organic alfalfa seed, organic radish seed, organic mung bean, organic lentil, and organic broccoli seed.
Trail Spouting: To sprout these seeds while on the trail, we recommend the use of a hemp sprout bag. Hemp is extremely durable and is naturally mold resistant. To sprout, use 1/4 cup of seeds per hemp sprout bag. Add seeds to hemp back and soak seeds in water overnight (or 8-10 hours), then drain. Rinse seeds by pouring a small amount of drinkable water directly on the seeds 2-3 times a day until ready to eat (about 3 - 4 days). Yields about 4 cups of sprouts. Sprouts will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks on the trail (within the sprout bag) if kept moist by daily rinsing.
The seeds will last 2-3 years when stored in a cool, dark location.
